IRI and iPads…oh my!

Today we did it!  We finished the last of our ISAT test.  The students once again amazed me with their focus and hard work.  Thanks again for all your support at home by preparing your child for these important assessments. Next comes the IRI which is the Idaho Reading Indicator on May 4th.  We've been practicing fluency all year so the students should be ready. Fluency is not just about how fast you read, but more of the quality of your reading.  Be sure to ask your child what they understand about being a fluent reader.  Hopefully they'll be able to tell you that readers use many strategies so that they don't sound like robots!  The strategies we've focused on are: Use a storyteller voice. Put words together like you're talking. Change your voice to match the mood. Notice punctuation and match your voice to it. Change your voice to sound like the characters. Once we finish with our assessments we have an exciting event happening in our classroom.  Our class will be participating in an innovative technology pilot program beginning May 14th - 25th.  We are very excited to be incorporating the use of Apple iPads into our classrooms.  Please be sure to read through the Read full article »

Wow! What a week!

Native American Projects and State Testing.

Our Native American unit is winding down and the students are eager to begin sharing their research projects.  The presentations are due April 9th through 13th.  This week they are signing up for specific times and days to share.  I'll be sending home a notice to let you know the times they've chosen. Native American Unit and Projects
